K1 by Geoff Hardy Cabernet Sauvignon 2002
I bought this wine off the shelf in a nice retail place and decided to have it opened tonight when no one is disturbing me! I guess the wine is really nice because nearly 3/4 bottle is now gone and I have not even started to properly analyse the wine yet. Some background information first, this wine hails from the cool climate Kuitpo plot in Adelaide Hills and is the premium wine from the Hardy's family. From the bottle, I'm having bottle no.2930 of the 5000 bottles made in this 2002 vintage.

TASTING NOTES

APPEARANCE
A dark ruby rim & an inky black core. Average clarity but looks very potent and matured from the 6 years it spent in the bottle.

NOSE
Rich blackberry jam hits the nose with a lovely underlayer of mild aged plums, fresh oak shavings & young liquorice. The nose has a really lovely balance of bouquets, nothing really stands apart and is presented in a lovely matured bundle.

PALATE
Good weight on the tongue and very intense tannin structure. I must say i'm impressive with the very rounded and lively tannins in this wine! Good balance and really nice and long grape skin finish.

EVOLUTION/CONCLUSION
Some developments of mixed aged herbs(not dried), some cinnemon & thyme in the nose after 1 hour of breathing. Overall a lovely wine to have with some food, i think this is a superb food pairing wine, especially with heavy meat and sauces. But I must admit that as a stand alone wine, I would be bored with it after 2 glasses, because there's not really much going on after the first sip is tasted. Its still a very good wine for its price range!
